In the Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers’ song Into the Great Wide Open, Tom sang “the future was wide open” and even Rush’s song Freewill made it abundantly clear that we are not prisoners of fate. The future is open, it is undecided, and ultimately, it is unknowable.
God did not give us free will, He gave us life. A standard component of life is free will. Angels have it and we have it. Our decisions change the future. What a powerful God we serve that can still make His will happen even though we are changing the future every second of our lives.
One of the most powerful words in the Bible is “if”. It occurs 1,595 times in the King James Version of the Protestant Christian Bible. I think that says a lot.
